LG poll: Lagos APC rejects opposition's claims of electoral malpractices

Published 15 hours ago2 minute read

The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has dismissed claims by opposition parties discrediting the recently concluded local council elections in the state.

In a statement, yesterday, signed by its Spokesperson, Mogaji Oluseye Oladejo, the APC described the opposition’s claims of electoral malpractice as “baseless” and “ill-advised.”

The party stressed that the elections were conducted in full compliance with all legal and procedural requirements, under the supervision of the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC) and with the participation of civil society observers and relevant stakeholders.

According to it, the outcome of the elections reflects the will of the people and affirms their confidence in the ruling party’s track record of good performance and service delivery.

The APC urged the opposition to act responsibly and channel any grievances through the proper legal channels rather than resorting to public smear campaigns aimed at undermining democratic institutions.

Oladejo noted that the party remains committed to strengthening democracy, upholding the rule of law, and delivering on the mandate freely given by the people.

Meanwhile, LASIEC has presented certificates of return to the newly elected chairmen, vice chairmen, and councillors of the local councils and Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs).

LASIEC Chairman, Justice Bola Okikiolu-Ighile (rtd), in her remark during the ceremony held at LASIEC Headquarters in Sabo, Yaba, Lagos, commended the electorate, stakeholders, and the ad-hoc staff for their active participation and dedication throughout the electoral process. She acknowledged initial accreditation delays but praised the swift and effective support of security agencies across the state, which ensured public safety. Okikiolu-Ighile affirmed that the new officials’ tenure would begin as the current administration ends on July 26, 2025.

On his part, the Chairman-elect of Amuwo-Odofin Local Council, Lanre Sanusi, while identifying roads as a major challenge of its community, blamed the Federal Housing Authority for not maintaining FESTAC roads, saying: “We are excited with the outcome of this election; we have assured our people to continue to make life better.”

Road infrastructure, especially in FESTAC, will be given top attention.”
