Ogun Workers' Strike: PDP Stands In Solidarity With Labour Unions
…
The Ogun State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has declared solidarity with the entire workforce of the state both at the state and local government levels as they embark on indefinite industrial action to protest the longstanding abuse and neglect of the Contributory Pension Scheme (CPS) under the administration of Governor Dapo Abiodun.
In a statement, Publicity Secretary PDP Ogun State, Otunba Kayode Adebayo, said the refusal of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC government led by Mr Dapo Abiodun is nothing short of an institutionalized disservice to members of Ogun State Civil Service after 17 years the Ogun State Pension Reform Law (OGPRL) of 2008 (as amended in 2013).
“It is undeniable that the ruling government still treats the scheme with blatant disdain. The ugly reality is that while workers’ deductions have been consistently and diligently made for over fourteen (14) years, the current Ogun State Government has failed to remit the funds to the Pension Fund Administrators (PFAs). From all indications, the government, as always, has dipped its hands into workers’ legitimate savings with reckless abandon, thereby committing a clear breach of law, trust, and social contract.
“Our great party, on the strength of our robust relationship with the workforce makes bold to align fully with the decision of the organized labour to suspend their services indefinitely starting 12 midnight, Tuesday, July 15, 2025, until justice is served and the life savings of Ogun State workers are secured from continuous plunder by the Dapo Abiodun-led administration.
“We equally commend the call on all professional associations, including the Association of Community Health Practitioners of Nigeria, to stand united in this just cause.
“Without mincing words, the PDP is further appalled by the sheer insensitivity of this administration to the glaring disparity in workers’ welfare within the Southwest. How does a state with the second highest Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) in Nigeria explain paying a Level 7 officer a meagre ₦18,787, while Lagos pays ₦60,751, Osun ₦55,952, and even Ekiti and Ondo pay significantly higher? Even the domestic servant allowance for Level 15 officers in Ogun State is a pitiful ₦38,387, a far cry from what their colleagues earn in other states.
“This is not a mistake. It is a deliberate strangulation of Ogun workers whose pensions, gratuity, and allowances are calculated based on these oppressive figures. The same workers whose sweat fuels the engine of government.
“Our great party holds that this industrial action is not only lawful. It is the legitimate right of the workers to press home their rights. It is a moral necessity, and we warn Mr Abiodun and his friends masquerading as a government not to resort to intimidating or blackmailing the dedicated workforce in Ogun state. What Ogun workers deserve is fairness, accountability, and justice, not propaganda, empty promises, or vindictive threats.
“Again, we therefore charge the Ogun State House of Assembly, traditional rulers, community leaders, and all conscientious citizens to rise above partisan biases and demand transparency and accountability in the treatment of Ogun State workers.
“Enough of the deceit. Enough of the abuse and enough of the betrayal. Ogun state workers, just like other members of the public have endured all manners of callousness and undeserved wickedness from the ruling APC government and this irresponsive mismanagement of their legitimate entitlement must not be added to their renewed woes in the hands of the ruling government.
“For the umpteenth time, Mr Dapo Abiodun must be reminded that the PDP’s stands in solidarity with the Ogun State civil servants remains unwavering and total,, ” the statement said.
