On Thursday morning, suspected gunmen killed two people along the Agulu-Nanka boundary in Anaocha Local Government Area of Anambra State. The attack, which occurred around 10:45 a.m., has escalated tension between the two neighboring communities. Eyewitnesses reported that the assailants fled the scene on a motorcycle after the deadly act. The motive remains unknown. According to a resident who spoke anonymously, the victims were members of local security outfits allegedly established by Governor Chukwuma Soludo for electoral purposes.

The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, did not initially respond to calls, but a senior police officer confirmed the incident, stating that the new Commissioner of Police has deployed men to pursue the perpetrators and that the command would issue a statement soon. Reports indicate one victim was shot inside a red saloon car, while the other was killed attempting to flee.

In a separate incident on the same Thursday, a lawyer named Rolex Iloakasia and his client were shot dead while returning from a court hearing in Anambra. Police spokesperson Tochukwu Ikenga confirmed the incident, stating it occurred around 11:30 a.m. in Egbebelu village, Nanka, under the Orumba North LGA. The lawyer had secured bail for an accused person in a murder case at High Court II in Ekwulobia before the attack.
