LASEMA, LAWMA seek better management of flood

Published 7 hours ago2 minute read

Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) and the Lagos State Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) have agreed to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) geared towards both agencies working collaboratively to avert flood disaster in the state.

The Permanent Secretary, LASEMA, Dr Olufemi Damilola Oke-Osanyintolu, revealed this after courtesy visit to the Managing Director of LAWMA, Dr Muyiwa Gbadegesin.

According to Oke-Osanyintolu the partnership becomes necessary following an early warning from the Federal Government in terms of the vulnerability that the good people of Lagos Stare are exposed to.

“And we realised one of our major stakeholders, LAWMA, what they have put in place; their success story keeps giving Lagos people good resilience to flood. We recalled what happened at Niger State, We don’t want such things to happen in Lagos State.

“LAWMA has been doing fantastically well in ensuring that the multifactorial are put at bay, and we are here to say kudos to them. We are here to have a sort of MOU with them so that we can build capacity of both LAWMA and LASEMA teams.” On his part, Gbadegesin thanked LASEMA for coming to LAWMA and see the visit and MoU as part of proactive steps.

“We are committed to working with LASEMA. They have been doing a wonderful job for many years now under the stewardship of Oke-Osanyitolu, and so for us at LAWMA, it’s an opportunity to reaffirm our readiness to support LASEMA and other agencies to ensure that Lagosians are able to live safely. We’re going to work closely together in days ahead to ensure that we have a flood-free Lagos.”
