Lagos announces traffic diversion for Marine Bridge maintenance

Published 2 days ago2 minute read

The Lagos State Government has released a traffic advisory in preparation for the scheduled maintenance works on Marine Bridge by the Federal Ministry of Works.

This was announced in a press statement signed by the Lagos State Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi on Friday morning.

The partial closure is necessary to support maintenance work on the bridge’s underlying bearings, managed by the Federal Ministry of Works (Office of the Federal Controller, Lagos).

The maintenance, which will commence on Sunday, May 18, 2025, and run until Sunday, June 8, 2025, will be carried out in two phases to minimise traffic disruption on that axis.

The first phase is scheduled to commence on May 18 and end on June 1. During this phase, maintenance will focus on the foot of Marine Bridge (Lawani Oguntayo Road inbound Apapa/Costain).

Motorists traveling from Ijora Oloopa to Apapa are advised to use the Ijora Causeway access ramp near Omni Retail Company to continue their journey.

The second phase will be between June 2 and June 8. This phase will cover Ijora Badia and Lilypond Access Ramp inbound Apapa.

Motorists heading to Apapa from Costain will be diverted into a contraflow on the lane inbound Costain.

Additionally, from June 2 to June 8, those traveling from Ijora Olopa to Apapa will be rerouted via the Ijora Causeway access ramp by Omni Retail Company into Lilypond Access Road.

The commissioner further noted that Marine Bridge will be fully reopened to traffic on Monday, June 9, 2025.

He also assured road users that the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority will oversee vehicular movement along the corridor to reduce inconveniences.

Motorists are advised to exercise patience and adhere to the traffic management plan during the maintenance period to ensure smooth travel and safety within the stipulated period.
