Labour Party Fights Back: Denies INEC Nomination Deadline Miss
The Labour Party has strongly denied claims of failing to submit its presidential and vice-presidential candidates to INEC for the 2027 general elections. The party's spokesperson confirmed all submissions were made well before the July 14, 2026 deadline, criticizing media reports based on anonymous sources. They urged the public to disregard the "patently false" allegations ahead of INEC's final candidate list publication.
The Labour Party has vehemently refuted allegations that it failed to submit the names of its Presidential and Vice Presidential candidates to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for the upcoming 2027 general elections. According to Ken Asogwa, the party's National Publicity Secretary, all nominated candidates for both the Presidential and National Assembly elections were successfully uploaded to the INEC portal well in advance of the stipulated deadline of July 14, 2026.
Asogwa explicitly stated that “The allegation making the rounds in some media outlets is patently false, misleading, and exists only in the imagination of the purveyors of that fake news.” He further clarified that the Labour Party had completed the uploading process for its Presidential and Vice Presidential candidates by July 10, 2026, which was a full four days before the official closing of the INEC portal. He underscored that the entire submission exercise was executed seamlessly and in strict adherence to all INEC guidelines, thereby precluding any possibility of omission or late submission.
The party voiced its significant concern regarding the media report that propagated these claims, noting that the report was attributed to an anonymous INEC official without any prior attempt to verify the information with the Labour Party leadership. Asogwa highlighted that such a development raises profound questions concerning the professional integrity and responsibility of the media organization in question, speculating whether the publication might have been intended to serve a specific ulterior political agenda.
In response to the misleading report, the Labour Party urged its members and the general public to disregard the false information. Asogwa assured that INEC is expected to imminently publish the final, authoritative list of all validly nominated candidates. He confidently concluded that “This latest attempt has collapsed under the weight of the facts, like a pack of cards,” reaffirming the party's full compliance and preparedness for the 2027 general elections.
