Kidnappers Murder Abducted APC Ward Chairman After Ransom Payment

Nelson Adepoyigi, the chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in ward 5, Ifon, Ose LGA of Ondo state, has been killed by his abductors. Adepoyigi was kidnapped from his residence in Ifon a few days prior to being found dead. The kidnappers initially demanded N100 million for his release, eventually settling for a negotiated sum of N5 million. Two individuals who delivered the N5 million and food items intended to secure Adepoyigi’s release were also seized by the kidnappers, who then demanded an additional N30 million.
Clement Kolapo Ojo, chair of Ose LGA, confirmed the incident, stating that while the two volunteers regained their freedom, Adepoyigi’s life was tragically cut short. The leadership and people of Ose Local Government expressed their condolences to the family and associates of the deceased, noting the critical juncture where security challenges pose a serious threat to the safety and freedom of the community.
Ojo urged residents to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious activities. He confirmed that another resident narrowly escaped being kidnapped just days before this incident, highlighting the dangerous and intolerable dimension that insecurity has taken.
The Ondo police command has yet to confirm the killing, but Commissioner of Police Wilfred Afolabi stated that detectives have been deployed to Ifon to investigate the incident. Sources within the community revealed that the kidnappers confirmed Adepoyigi had been marked for death by those behind his abduction.
Kolapo Ojo lamented the critical security situation in the area, reiterating the need for vigilance and unity to overcome the escalating threat.
