During this period, West notably released a single titled “Heil Hitler” and marketed T-shirts adorned with swastikas, leading to widespread condemnation.
It is important to note that this apology did not extend to his earlier history of antisemitic comments, which had led to the termination of nearly all his brand partnerships back in 2022. In his defense, West asserted his love for Jewish people, explaining that he had merely “gravitated toward the most destructive symbol I could find” during what he described as a manic episode.
Despite his explanation, the apology did not appear to convince a significant number of individuals or world governments. Evidence of this public skepticism included the banning of his shows in France and the U.K. mere months prior to the apology, a direct consequence of those countries' stringent prohibitions on Nazi rhetoric.
