Kenya Shaken: Gachagua Church Service Rocked by Tear Gas, Abduction Claims Spark Outcry

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua was reportedly abducted on Sunday by three hooded men while attending a church service at Wairima ACK Church in Othaya, Nyeri County. The incident, which occurred amidst a chaotic disruption of the church service, has led to mounting tension in the area.
According to Cleophas Malala, the deputy leader of the Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP), unidentified men forcibly seized Gachagua during a scramble for safety. Malala stated, "Police and goons attacked us while we were in church. As we scrambled for safety, three hooded men took our party leader, and we do not know where they have taken him."
Addressing the media alongside former nominated Senator Gloria Orwoba, Malala issued a stringent one-hour ultimatum to the government, demanding Gachagua's immediate production. The disruption at the church began after police lobbed tear gas, causing widespread panic among the congregants and escalating the chaotic scene.
Gachagua himself later took to social media to condemn the events, alleging that security officers not only dispersed worshippers with tear gas but also fired live bullets during the commotion. He further claimed that his vehicles were torched during the chaos. In a post, Gachagua pleaded, "We are marooned in church being attacked with live bullets and tear gas, and my vehicles have been torched. We ask Kenyans to pray for us to come out alive."
As of the time of publication, police had not issued an official statement regarding the incident or responded to the serious allegations made by Gachagua and Malala, leaving the circumstances surrounding the alleged abduction and church disruption unclear.
