The highly anticipated film “Captain India,” featuring actor Kartik Aaryan in the lead role, is set to commence its principal photography in London this September. The shoot is projected to conclude by the end of October, marking a significant step forward for the project. Directed by the acclaimed Shimit Amin, renowned for his work on the critically lauded “Chak De! India” (2007) and “Rocket Singh: Salesman of the Year” (2009), the film is gearing up for a grand release on August 13, 2027, strategically timed to coincide with India’s Independence Day weekend.

“Captain India” is a cinematic endeavor that draws its inspiration from a pivotal real-life event: India’s large-scale evacuation of its citizens from a country ravaged by war. This compelling premise, rooted in national bravery and humanitarian efforts, promises a powerful narrative. The screenplay has been crafted by a team comprising Nash Vazifdar, Sanchit Gupta, and Priyadarshee Shrivastava, ensuring a meticulously developed story. Director Shimit Amin, after directing two iconic films for Yash Raj Films, largely took a hiatus from feature film direction, though he did helm an episode of the BBC/Netflix series “A Suitable Boy” in 2020. The journey of “Captain India” to the production stage has seen some evolution. The film was initially announced in 2021, with Hansal Mehta attached as director, Ronnie Screwvala of RSVP producing, and Harman Baweja not only producing via Baweja Studios but also penning that version of the script. At that time, Kartik Aaryan was already slated to portray a pilot involved in the rescue mission, with principal photography initially anticipated to begin in early 2022. The current iteration, while retaining Aaryan in the lead, brings in a new director and an updated screenplay team, signifying a fresh creative direction for this inspiring tale.
