The Kano State Police Command has arrested eleven students of Government Boarding Secondary School, Bichi, in connection with the killing of two of their colleagues.

Spokesperson for the command, SP Abdullahi Haruna, confirmed the arrests on Thursday, noting that the suspects are currently undergoing interrogation. “Eleven students were arrested over the incident and the investigation is ongoing to find out the level of their individual involvement,” he stated.

The victims, identified as Hamza Idris Tofawa and Umar Yusuf Dungurawa, reportedly died after being attacked with locally fabricated metal objects, referred to as “Gwale-Gwale” within the school community.

The state Commissioner for Education, Dr. Ali Haruna Makoda, has directed a thorough investigation into the deaths. The instruction was conveyed by the ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Bashir Bappa Mohammad, during an official visit to the school on Wednesday.

While police investigations continue, the command has promised to pursue the case to a logical conclusion and ensure that all those found culpable are prosecuted.

Authorities have not confirmed whether the incident was related to cult activity or bullying. The motive for the attack remains under investigation.#
