The Kaduna State Government has announced the launch of its Subsidised Transport Scheme, which will provide free bus services to civil servants, retirees, and students starting Monday, July 7, 2025.

The Director-General of the Kaduna State Transport Regulatory Authority (KADSTRA), Engr. Inuwa Ibrahim disclosed this in a statement, saying the beneficiaries will enjoy free transportation for a period of six months.

He further revealed that following the initial phase, the general public will benefit from a 60% fare subsidy.

Engr. Ibrahim explained that students from both public and private institutions-ranging from primary to tertiary level-will be eligible for the service, provided they are in full school uniform.

He said civil servants must present a valid staff ID card alongside a matching National Identification Number (NIN) to access the buses, a measure intended to curb misuse of the scheme.

He added that retirees and personnel from recognised security agencies will also be eligible, subject to proper identification.

The DG said the free transport initiative aims to reduce the cost of commuting for key segments of the population.

Engr. Ibrahim cautioned against disorderly conduct, urging commuters to avoid rushing or jumping queues.

He stressed that the scheme will be implemented with strict security, orderliness, and operational efficiency.

The initiative comes after President Bola Ahmed Tinubu commissioned 100 Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) buses during his state visit to Kaduna on June 19, 2025.
