À la mémoire de
June Margaret Clarke
23 mai 1937 –
16 mars 2025
June lived with Parkinson’s disease for many years, but she valued her life, and tried to live as well as possible for as long as she possibly could. If nothing else, June was always very determined, and nothing could stand in her way.
Born at Women’s College Hospital, she was the only and beloved daughter of Thomas Henry Clarke and Lilian Clarke (nee Duviner). Succeeded by Bertrand and Michelle and seven grandchildren: Lilian, James, Thomas, Elizabeth, Jefferson, Owen and Patricia each of whom she adored.
June graduated from Havergal College in 1955. She studied medicine at the University of Toronto in 1961 – at a time when it was uncommon for women to become physicians. She completed her psychiatric residency at Bellevue Hospital in New York City in 1965. June was a respected physician in her community and she cared deeply for her patients. Eventually, as a long time psychiatrist at Etobicoke General Hospital she became Chief of Psychiatry. Throughout her career she served her patients with unwavering commitment, and touched many with her work.
June loved to travel, and visited almost every continent. She also enjoyed literature and all of the performing arts. And chocolate. She was a complex, thoughtful and friendly person who generously supported those in need. She will be deeply missed by all of us who love her. Safe travels, Mother.
Friends may call at the Turner and Porter “Yorke” Chapel, 2357 Bloor St. W., Toronto, on Saturday, April 5, 2025 from 2-3 p.m. A Memorial Service will follow in the chapel at 3:00 pm.
