Joy FM’s 90’s Jam Ignites Ghana with Retro Vibes and Star-Studded DJ Sets!

Joy FM’s much-anticipated 90s Jam once again transformed Pleasant Gardens in Dzorwulu into a vibrant throwback paradise, delivering an electrifying celebration of rhythm, nostalgia, and timeless music. What has become one of Ghana's most anticipated annual events, the 2026 edition, specifically held on Friday, January 2, 2026, cemented its status as a definitive post-New Year celebration in the capital. The event, a flagship brand of Joy FM, a subsidiary of The Multimedia Group, drew massive, sold-out crowds, filling every inch of the sprawling outdoor space and pushing the venue to its absolute limit with hundreds of revellers.
Patrons fully embraced the 90s theme, arriving in high-effort throwback gear and instantly transforming the venue with their colourful regalia. From baggy jeans, crop tops, and retro jerseys to classic sneakers, plaid flannel shirts tied around waists, colourful bandanas, chunky sneakers, graphic tees, high-waist jean shorts, oversized plaid shirts, baseball caps turned backwards, striped blazers, mini-skirts, knee-high white socks, and bucket hats, attendees vividly recreated the iconic streetwear and fashion aesthetics of the decade. This dedication to style contributed significantly to the vibrant, immersive atmosphere, embodying the bold and eclectic styles that defined the period, reminiscent of artists like TLC and Salt-N-Pepa, and shows like The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air.
The night’s playlist was a masterclass in 90s musical diversity, carefully curated to keep revellers on their feet. DJs seamlessly blended old-school favourites, offering a rich selection of classic R&B, hip hop, highlife, hiplife, pop rap, and dancehall anthems that defined a generation. The energy remained at a fever pitch throughout the night, with both long-time fans and younger patrons experiencing the era’s sound for the first time. The star-studded entertainment roster included Joy FM’s powerhouse lineup of veteran entertainers: DJ Black, the 'Master of the Decks', Lexis Bill, Nii Ayi Tagoe, and Kofi Hayford, who ensured flawless transitions and high-energy hype until the break of dawn.
A major highlight, and the “icing on the cake,” was the surprise appearance of Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, MP for Ofoase-Ayirebi, who traded his legislative duties for the turntables as a guest DJ. A former host of the Joy FM Super Morning Show (SMS) before his transition into politics, Oppong Nkrumah delivered a seamless display of skill, proving his groove remains as sharp as his political acumen. The crowd went wild, particularly after he dropped Kwabena Kwabena's
