Sekondi (W/R), March 04, GNA – Mr Joseph Nelson, the Western Regional Minister, has promised to ensure a fair and equal distribution of development projects across communities in the Region.

He said the government was commitment to rolling out programmes and projects that would deal with challenges in the region, especially those in deprived communities.

He said this when the chiefs and people of Zongo communities in the Western Region paid a courtesy call on him at the Western Regional Coordinating Council (WRCC), in Sekondi.

Mr Nelson said the government’s desire to reset the country would focus primarily on addressing challenges facing the people of Ghana through strategic policies to improve upon the well-being of the people.

He said: “The government will implement the manifesto pledges we made to deprived communities including Zongo areas in the region.

“We can see that following his assumption of office, President John Dramani Mahama has fulfilled some of the critical campaign promises he made during the electioneering period, including offering the Muslim community in Ghana reduction of Hajj fares this year and an additional holiday during Eid festivities.”

The Western Regional Minister said the government would work to improve on the standard of Islamic education to deliver quality Arabic teaching and learning in the country.

Mr Nelson lauded the Muslim community in the Western Region for dedicating the month of Ramadan to fast, pray and intercede on behalf of the country and appointees of the current administration.

He called for continued peace and stability in the region, saying; “Peace and stability are the core elements of development and the cornerstone to attract investment into the region.”

Alhaji Kamaldeen, a Representative of the Zongo Chiefs, who read a speech on behalf of the chiefs said their visit was to congratulate Mr Nelson for assuming office as the Western Regional Minister.

He however, mentioned poor roads infrastructure, poverty and lack of employment opportunities as the major challenges confronting Zongo areas in the region.

He therefore appealed to the Minister to use his office to address those challenges to help improve on their living standards.
