Tezenis Scaligera Verona (Serie A2) signed 34-year-old American 188cm shooting guard Tyrus McGee (college: Iowa State) for the upcoming season. He previously played for Acqua S.Bernardo Cantu and averaged 14.8ppg, 3.5rpg, and 3.1apg in 38 Serie A2 games last season. McGee was instrumental in helping his team win the Serie A2 title and cup, earning him a spot on the Eurobasket.com Italian Serie A2 All-Defensive Team and Eurobasket.com All-Italian Serie A2 Second Team. During the summer of 2024, he played for Herd That (Marshall Alumni) in the U.S. semi-pro league The Basketball Tournament. McGee will join fellow American player Justin Johnson on the team's roster.
He has tried to make it to the NBA and played in the NBA Pro Summer League in 2015.
McGee is a very experienced player, thanks to pro basketball he experienced life in eight different countries playing on three different continents. He is familiar with European, Asian, and North American leagues. McGee has played professionally in China (Sturgeons), France (Pau Lacq Orthez and SIG Strasbourg), Germany (Eisbaeren Bremerhaven), Israel (Hapoel Holon and Hapoel Eilat), Spain (Breogan Lugo and Longevida San Pablo Burgos), Turkey (Galatasaray and Afyon), Italy (Pistoia, Umana Venezia, Sassari, and Cremona) and The Basketball Tournament (Hilton ML, Aftershocks, and Iowa United).
He was selected to Eurobasket.com All-Italian Serie A Honorable Mention in 2016.
He graduated from Iowa State in 2013 and it'll be his 13th (hopefully lucky) season in pro basketball. McGee played also for Cowley County College for 2 years.
