It's time for (Summer League) Basketball: Spurs vs Lakers

Published 3 days ago2 minute read

Welcome to the Game Thread. Veterans of the Game Thread know how we do things around here, but for all you newbies we have a few rules. Our apply and basically say be cool, no personal attacks, don’t troll and don’t swear too much.

The Spurs played a much more watchable game on Sunday night against the Warriors than their first game loss to the Heat, defeating the host team 90-88 behind an impressive 25 points from David Jones-Garcia. DJG has some work to do to make it to the big team, but things may have just opened up for him as the Silver and Black just traded two of their young guards and a second round pick to the Wizards for Kelly Olynyk. He could end up taking the final two-way slot as emergency depth behind the Spurs stable of young talented backcourt players. If he continues to impress in Summer League, he’s definitely going to be on the training camp roster with a chance to grab that spot.

There a good chance that Riley Minix could return to action tonight and provide the shooting that has been missing from the Spurs Summer squad. Also, Carter Bryant could be back tonight after missing Sunday’s game with a slight ankle tweak. As always, these are practice games, so it’s really a mistake to read too much into winning or losing, but individual players want to put on a good performance to get a shot at continuing their professional careers somewhere, be it the G-League, Europe, or even the NBA.

After tonight, the Spurs will be taking the short trip to Nevada to play in the Las Vegas Summer League, starting with a game against the Sixers on Thursday night, with a marquee matchup between second and third picks Dylan Harper and VJ Edgecombe.

Harrison Ingram makes a quantum leap in his play tonight, unfortunately for us, a quantum leap is actually a very small change, and nobody notices.

GO SPURS GOOOO!!!
