It's time for (Summer League) Basketball: Spurs at Heat

Published 6 days ago2 minute read

Welcome to the Game Thread. Veterans of the Game Thread know how we do things around here, but for all you newbies we have a few rules. Our apply and basically say be cool, no personal attacks, don’t troll and don’t swear too much.

It’s really not wise to expect much out of Summer League basketball, especially the first game where a bunch of players who haven’t ever been on the same team end up playing a game where the score doesn’t matter after a few practices together. Summer League is all about drafted players getting a chance to get a little coaching in their new team’s system, and for undrafted players to chase their dreams by playing a few games in front of pro coaches and scouts, hoping to make it to an NBA training camp.

Dylan Harper (2nd overall pick) and Riley Minix (2nd year sharpshooter on a 2-way contract) will miss the games in California, but should play in Las Vegas next week. Carter Bryant should be available this afternoon, and it will be great for fans of the Silver and Black to see him in his first action in a Spurs jersey. [Sort of, SL league games don’t count as official game appearances.] Harrison Ingram, another Spur on a 2-way contract will be another player to watch. I’m interested to see Mouhamet Diouf, a 6’11” center who has been playing in Italy and who could be a candidate to improve the Spurs depth inside.

The player to watch on the Heat should be Kasparas Jakučionis, a 6’6” guard who was drafter 20th in the 2025 NBA Draft, and Kel’El Ware, an athletic big in his second year with the Heat.

Nathan Mensah will score his first Summer League triple double.

GO SPURS GOOOO!!!
