Inspiring Rise: Rejected a Decade Ago, Ragini Das Now Leads Google's India Startups

Ragini Das, a prominent figure in the Indian startup ecosystem, has announced her new role as Head of Google for Startups - India, a position she describes as “destiny” and a “full circle” moment in her career. Sharing the update on LinkedIn, Das expressed her excitement about leading Google’s mission to support thriving startups across the country.
Her journey to Google began in 2013 when she interviewed with both Google and Zomato. While she did not make it through the final round at Google, she secured a position at Zomato, where she spent six transformative years. Das credits her time at Zomato with helping her “identify my career moat,” fostering lifelong friendships, and building the resilience necessary to co-found her next venture.
In 2020, Das co-founded leap.club, a women-led professional network, which she considers her “most defining chapter.” She highlighted how leap.club provided her with “purpose, an identity and, changed lives for thousands of women,” and allowed her to connect with founders addressing significant challenges in India. After pausing operations in June, Das took time for personal pursuits like art, fitness, travel, and photography before discovering her current role at Google in August. She felt this opportunity was “perfectly aligned with my journey.”
In her new capacity, Ragini Das will be instrumental in Google’s mission to connect startups worldwide with the right people, products, and best practices to facilitate their growth. She anticipates sharing more details about upcoming initiatives in India soon.
Beyond her roles at Zomato and leap.club, Das’s professional background includes experience with Trident Group India and internships at Standard Chartered Bank and Aludecor. Academically, she holds a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration (BBA) with First-Class Honours from Lancaster University and completed her schooling at Chettinad Vidyashram in Chennai, where she was also the Cultural Secretary. Additionally, Ragini Das chairs the Women in Startups Committee at FICCI, further solidifying her commitment to the startup community.
