Iconic Duo Returns! Tom Hanks & Tim Allen Reunite for 'Toy Story 5' Trailer After 7 Years!

The beloved "Toy Story" franchise is set to return with its fifth installment, "Toy Story 5," promising to explore new thematic territory by addressing the profound impact of technology on children's play and imagination. This highly anticipated sequel, initially announced in 2023 alongside "Zootopia 2" and "Frozen 3," is part of Disney's strategic efforts to capitalize on cherished stories and characters to bolster its box office performance. This strategy has already seen success, with "Zootopia 2" setting a record as the highest-grossing animated film in U.S. history with over $1.7 billion, while also earning rave reviews.

For the first time, Woody (Tom Hanks), Buzz (Tim Allen), Jessie (Joan Cusack), and the rest of the gang will confront a formidable new antagonist: a seemingly cheerful tablet named Lilypad. Voiced by "Past Lives" star Greta Lee, this frog-designed device poses a significant threat to Bonnie's world. A new trailer for the film reveals the true malicious intent of Lilypad, which aims to isolate Bonnie from her physical toys, family, and friends by offering an all-encompassing digital entertainment experience, providing "all the fun she could ever want in one place."

The plot sees the crucial return of Woody to his friends after his departure in "Toy Story 4." Jessie is stepping up to challenge Lilypad, but the toys quickly realize they will need their old sheriff's help to overcome the powerful draw of this technological foe. Adding to their challenges, the gang will also face an army of malfunctioning Buzz Lightyear toys, ensuring that their mission to remain central to Bonnie's world will be their toughest yet.

The returning voice cast includes iconic actors such as Tom Hanks as Woody, Tim Allen as Buzz Lightyear, and Joan Cusack as Jessie. Tony Hale reprises his role as Forky, and Blake Clark returns as Slinky. Ernie Hudson steps in as Combat Carl, taking over from the late Carl Weathers. Newcomers to the franchise, in addition to Greta Lee as Lilypad, include Anna Faris, Craig Robinson, and Conan O'Brien, with O'Brien lending his comedic talents to the character of Smarty Pants, a happy-go-lucky potty training toy.

Andrew Stanton takes the helm as both writer and director for "Toy Story 5," aiming to strike a similar chord with audiences by finding fresh angles for Andy's old pals, much like previous installments. The film is slated for a June 19, 2026 release, making it a key part of what is shaping up to be a monumental year for Disney, with other anticipated releases including "The Devil Wears Prada 2," "Hoppers," "The Mandalorian & Grogu," and "Avengers: Doomsday" also on the horizon.
