'I'm Closing This Chapter' - Brooklyn Nets Forward Retires From Basketball After a 10-Year NBA Career
Parting ways with a sport has never been easy for most professional athletes. However, there comes a time when everyone has to decide when to step away and start a new chapter. That’s what happened on Sunday with Bojan Bogdanovic, as he made his official announcement to retire from basketball and the NBA. On Instagram, he addressed his decision with a post about why he’s leaving the sport.
Last summer, Bogdanovic was traded to the Brooklyn Nets by the New York Knicks. However, the foot injuries that he suffered prevented him from playing for the Nets, which was supposed to be his second stint with the organization.
The Croatian forward underwent a season-ending foot surgery in February, which was one of the main reasons why he couldn’t continue his career with the Nets. After the 2024-25 season, Bogdanovic made it official to step away from the sport due to the injuries he’s suffered.
He posted a lengthy message on his Instagram account about his decision.
“Sometimes in life, you don’t choose the moment. The moment chooses you,” Bogdanovic wrote. “After 14 months of battling a foot injury, two surgeries, and countless efforts to get back on the court, the time has come to close a chapter. After more than two decades in the game, the moment has arrived to say goodbye to basketball. Not just as a sport, but as a part of who I am.
“Thank you to all the coaches, teammates, medical staff, fans and clubs who were part of this journey in any way. A special thank you to my family. You were the foundation through every high and every doubt. I’m closing this chapter, but my love for the game remains.
