Former Utah Jazz forward Bojan Bogdanovic announces retirement after 11 seasons in the NBA
After a decade of knock down 3-point shooting, game-winning buzzer beaters, and being a fan favorite for multiple franchises, Bojan Bogdanovic has decided to retire from the game of basketball.
On Sunday morning, Bogdanovic put out a statement on his social media saying goodbye to the sport.
“Sometimes in life, you don’t choose the moment. The moment chooses you,” Bogdanovic said. “After 14 months of battling a foot injury, two surgeries, and countless efforts to get back on the court, the time has come to close a chapter.”

Tabbed as one of the biggest free agents signings in franchise history, the Utah Jazz’s signing of Bogdanovic in 2019, along with the trade to acquire Mike Conley, vaulted the Jazz into Western Conference title contention. Bogdanovic wasted no time getting to work, as his first season in Utah was one of the best in his career.
In only his ninth game with the Jazz, Bogdanovic hit a game-winning 3-point buzzer beater in the left corner to beat reigning MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo and the Milwaukee Bucks.
He hit another game-winning buzzer beater later in the season against the Rockets. One of the most difficult buzzer beaters you will ever see.
In that eventful 2019-20 season, Bogdanovic averaged 20.2 points per game on 41.4% 3-pt shooting. He was a great second option for a young Donovan Mitchell, who had a huge offensive workload in his first two seasons with the Jazz.
But Bogdanovic’s 2020 season was cut short, when he elected to have wrist surgery, and forgo the NBA’s bubble in Orlando. Utah lost to Denver in seven games in round one of the bubble playoffs, and the absence of Bogdanovic has remained one of the biggest “what ifs” in franchise history.
Bogi played two more seasons in Utah, but was dealt to Detroit for Kelly Olynyk before the 2022-23 season started. The Jazz were clearing house, and Bogdanovic was caught in the crossfire.
Since then, Bojan has played for two teams, the Pistons and Knicks, but was challenged with a very difficult foot injury in New York. He was sidelined all of last season, which played a big role in his decision to retire.
Between his buzzer beaters in Utah, his impressive play against 2018 playoff LeBron with the Pacers, or being a beloved teammate wherever he goes, Bogdanovic left a big impact on many fan bases over the last decade.
Congrats on a successful career and good luck in your next chapter, Bojan!
