Hulu Revives Iconic Animated Series 'King of the Hill' for Two More Seasons, Fans Rejoice!

The acclaimed revival of the beloved animated series “King of the Hill” on Hulu has been renewed for two additional seasons, ensuring the show's continued presence through its 17th season. Each of these new seasons will comprise 10 episodes, adding to Hulu's initial order of 20 episodes back in 2023. The first batch of 10 episodes, designated as Season 14, debuted earlier this year to significant praise, with Season 15 slated for a 2026 release. The recently announced renewal covers Seasons 16 and 17, with Season 15 being part of the original 20-episode order and expected to debut next year (2025).
The revival has been a resounding success, establishing itself as one of the more triumphant attempts among a wave of classic TV show revivals. Critics and fans alike have lauded Season 14, which garnered a near-unanimous 98% critical approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes. The show also made a strong impression on streaming charts, debuting at the number two spot on the Nielsen Top 10 streaming chart and accumulating an impressive one billion hours streamed globally across Hulu and Disney+.
A key to the revival's success has been the return of most of the original cast, including series co-creator Mike Judge, who voices Hank Hill and Boomhauer. Kathy Najimy returns as Peggy Hill, Pamela Adlon as Bobby Hill, Stephen Root as Bill Dauterive, Lauren Tom as Minh Souphanousinphone and Connie Souphanousinphone, and Toby Huss, who has taken over voicing Dale Gribble following the passing of original voice actor Johnny Hardwick. Hardwick had recorded several episodes before his death, with Huss stepping into the role subsequently. Ronny Chieng joins the cast as Kahn Souphanousinphone.
The new episodes pick up with the Hill family — Hank, Peggy, and Bobby — returning to their suburban home in Arlen, Texas, after spending several years living on an expatriate compound in Saudi Arabia. During their time abroad, Hank worked for the Aramco oil company as the “assistant manager in charge of Arabian propane and Arabian propane accessories.” Upon their return, they discover that while much in Arlen has changed, the core essence of their old Rainey Street gang and their unique perspectives on modern America remain. Bobby, now an aspiring chef, has opened a restaurant with Chane Wassanasong (Ki Hong Lee) and is reconnecting with his boyhood crush, Connie. Boomhauer has become a stepfather, while the neurotic barber Bill has descended further into depression and isolation. Conspiracy-minded exterminator Dale Gribble even briefly became Arlen's mayor. Furthermore, Hank’s sometimes acrimonious neighbors, Kahn and Minh Souphanousinphone, have broken up but maintain a facade of domestic bliss.
Co-creators Mike Judge and Greg Daniels return as executive producers for the new seasons, with Saladin Patterson (a veteran of "Psych" and "The Big Bang Theory") serving as the showrunner. Other executive producers include 3 Arts’ Michael Rotenberg and Howard Klein, as well as Bandera Entertainment’s Dustin Davis. 20th Television Animation is the studio behind the production. In an interview, Patterson reflected on the timing of the revival, noting Hank Hill’s enduring appeal: “Hank always represented such a commonsense, practical approach to cultural things and societal things. Whether it leaned left of middle or right of middle, it always was something that was respectful and made sense.” The successful revival, praised by Collider for its ability to age characters and modernize the world while retaining its classic feel, continues to be a fan and critical favorite.
