Indian equity indices are expected to open on a higher to flat note following positive global cues. The Asian indices were trading mixed in morning trade. The GIFT Nifty was trading flat at 25,154. Here are key global cues to watch before the market opens that include new crude oil prices, FII and DII data, business groups that most, sectoral performance, etc.
Earlier on Monday, the NSE Nifty 50 closed the session 68 points or 0.27% lower at 25,082, while the BSE Sensex declined 247 points or 0.30% to close at 82,253.
Asia-Pacific markets opened Tuesday on a mixed note as investors appear to look past US President Donald Trump’s on-and-off tariffs and await the release of a lot of Chinese economic data. Japan’s Nikkei 225 benchmark was flat while the broader Topix index added 0.32%. In South Korea, the Kospi index was down 0.31% while the small-cap Kosdaq moved up 0.26%.
The US markets closed Monday’s trade on a higher note, shrugging off Trump’s higher tariff threats on more countries as they’ll eventually be negotiated down. The S&P 500 rose 0.14% to close at 6,268.56, while the Nasdaq Composite added 0.27% to settle at 20,640.33. The Dow Jones Industrial Average advanced 88.14 points, or 0.20%, ending at 44,459.65.
The US Dollar Index (DXY), which measures the dollar’s value against a basket of six foreign currencies, was trading 0.04% lower at 98.08 on Tuesday morning. The index evaluates the strength or weakness of the US dollar in comparison to major currencies. The basket contains currencies such as the British Pound, Euro, Swedish Krona, Japanese Yen, Swiss Franc, etc. The rupee depreciated 0.21% to close at 85.98 to the dollar on July 14.
The crude oil prices traded on a lower note on Tuesday morning. WTI crude prices were trading at $66.81, down by 0.26%, while Brent crude prices were trading at $69.08, down by 0.19%.
Foreign institutional investors (FII) were the net sellers of shares worth Rs 1,629.40 crore. On the other hand, the Domestic institutional investors (DII) were the net buyers of shares worth Rs 1,821.12 crore on July 15, 2024, according to the provisional data available on the NSE.
The rate for 24-carat gold today is Rs 98,170 per 10 grams, consolidating near its all-time high. The safe haven’s price is near the Rs 1 lakh mark. The rate of gold has surged by 1.43% in the past one week. The 22 kt gold rate today is Rs 89,989 per 10 grams. The 18-carat gold price today is Rs 73,628.
Among sectors, Non-Alcoholic Beverages saw the strongest action, with a 1.84% rise in market capitalisation. This was followed by Fertilisers, which gained 1.51%. Cables and Auto Ancillaries also saw decent traction, gaining 1.27% and 1.25%, respectively.
