House To Host First Legislative Conference on Renewable Energy
The conference aims at bringing together key stakeholders and industry players to discuss renewable energy legislations, energy transition, renewable energy financing, investment opportunities and related matters, towards developing a national legislative framework on renewable energy.
The Chairman of the House Committee on Renewable Energy Mr. Afam Ogene said that the proposed legislative instruments would enhance private and public sector investment in renewables.
He said that the conference would also strengthen collaboration and coordination between federal and state governments in the energy sector.
Mr. Ogene said.
He noted that the conference aims at bringing together key stakeholders and industry players to discuss renewable energy legislations, energy transition, renewable energy financing, and investment opportunities towards developing a national legislative framework on renewable energy.
According to the lawmaker, the recent legislative reforms around the energy sector in the Country, highlights the growing momentum which necessitated the convocation of the maiden edition of the Legislative Conference on Renewable Energy in Nigeria.
He stressed that the new National Integrated Electricity Policy, 2025 provides a clearer framework, that States need to adopt as they set in place their new electricity markets.
He said that the Specific Objectives of the Conference include
Mr. Ogene also said that the International Parliamentary Union(IPU) will be participating in the conference.
He also said that the conference would have a session that will focus on how to establish a unified Legislative framework on Renewable Energy development, investment and financing.
The Chairman listed some of the expected outcomes of the Conference to include:
” i. Proposed Policy & Legislative Reform Recommendations for promoting renewable energy use in Nigeria.
ii. Proposed legislative instruments for increasing private and public sector investment in renewables
iii. Strengthened collaboration and coordination between federal and state governments at legislative levels in the energy sector
iv. Increased public understanding and awareness on the importance of the legislature in renewable energy agenda in Nigeria
v. A robust implementation roadmap for action and a system for tracking progress.
vi. A renewable energy technology showcase demonstrating the advances in renewables and opportunities for business partnerships”.
The First National Legislative Conference on Renewable Energy and Expo on Renewable Energy is to be held in Lagos in May.
