Hollywood Mourns: 'The Middle' Star Pat Finn Passes Away at 60

Pat Finn, a consistently beloved figure in the world of sitcoms, has passed away at the age of 60. The actor, widely recognized for his portrayal of the amiable neighbor Bill Norwood in the popular series "The Middle," succumbed to bladder cancer after a three-year battle. The news was shared by Finn's family and loved ones, with his manager, Andrea Pett-Joseph, describing him as "the kindest, most joyful person in any room."
Before his memorable role in "The Middle," Finn had already established a significant presence in television. He first gained entry into the sitcom landscape as Joe Mayo on "Seinfeld" and subsequently made numerous appearances in other well-known shows. His extensive television credits include "That '70s Show," "Friends," "The Drew Carey Show," "Curb Your Enthusiasm," and "The Goldbergs," among many others. Beyond television, Finn also featured in successful comedies such as "Dude, Where's My Car" and "It's Complicated."
Among his diverse body of work, Pat Finn's role as Bill Norwood on "The Middle" stands out as one of his most cherished and enduring performances. "The Middle" chronicled the lives of the middle-class Heck family, starring Patricia Heaton as the matriarch and Neil Flynn as the patriarch, alongside Charlie McDermott, Eden Sher, and Atticus Shaffer as their three children. Finn made his debut in the series in Season 2, Episode 11, when his character, Bill, and his wife Paula (played by Julie Brown) moved into the Heck family's neighborhood on Halloween. What began as an initial awkward encounter blossomed into a lasting friendship, quickly endearing Bill Norwood to fans. Finn consistently appeared in at least one episode of almost every subsequent season, culminating in his presence in the show's Season 9 finale. This marked his most extensive role in a single television sitcom.
Tributes poured in from friends and colleagues, reflecting on Finn's impact. Conan writer Brian Stack remembered Finn as a "dear friend" and "brilliantly hilarious," sharing a touching video of Finn with his daughter, Cassidy. Similarly, Jeff Dye, star of "The 60 Yard Line," expressed his sorrow, calling Finn "one of the best dudes I knew with a PERFECT sense of humor." Pat Finn is survived by his wife, Donna, and his three children, Cassidy, Caitlin, and Ryan. His passing leaves a void in the entertainment industry and in the hearts of those who knew and admired him.
