Nigeria’s esteemed para powerlifting athlete, Folashade Oluwafemiayo, has once again etched her name into the annals of global sporting history. At the 2025 World Para Powerlifting Championships held in Cairo, Egypt, Oluwafemiayo delivered a truly remarkable performance, shattering both the African and her own previous world records.

Competing in the women’s over 86kg category, the four-time world champion showcased immense strength and unwavering determination. She successfully lifted an astounding 168kg, surpassing her prior best and establishing a new benchmark in the sport. This dominant display not only earned her the best lift but also the total lift gold medals, signifying a double triumph at the prestigious event.

This latest achievement adds to an already illustrious career for Oluwafemiayo, coming just months after she secured a gold medal at the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games. The competition in Cairo was fierce, with Wenjun of China claiming the silver medal with a total lift of 157kg, while Nikoo Rozbahani of Iran secured the bronze, lifting 152kg.

Reacting to her record-breaking feat, an emotional Folashade Oluwafemiayo expressed profound gratitude for the unwavering support she received. She stated, “I’m grateful to God, my coaches, teammates, and the Nigeria Weightlifting Federation for their support.
