Coastal Karnataka sizzles as temperatures soar beyond 40°C

Dakshina Kannada

district continues to experience hot and humid conditions, with temperatures soaring across the region. According to the Karnataka State Natural Disaster Monitoring Centre (

KSNDMC

), Sullia Hobli recorded the highest maximum temperature in the state at 40.1°C between 8.30am on February 28 and March 1.
Several locations in Dakshina

Kannada

and

Uttara Kannada

districts also reported extreme temperatures. In Dakshina Kannada, Panemangalore (Bantwal) recorded 39.1°C, Uppinangady 39.5°C, and Kadaba 39°C.
Similarly, in Uttara Kannada district,

Savantvada

(Karwar) recorded the maximum temperature at 39.9°C,

Mavinakurve

(Honnavar) at 39.5°C, and

Ghadasaya

(Karwar) at 39.8°C.
KSNDMC’s weather monitoring network recorded temperatures above 39°C at four locations in Dakshina Kannada and three in Uttara Kannada. However, the maximum temperatures remained near normal (-1.5°C to 1.5°C) across the state.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a heat wave warning for March 1 and 2 in Coastal Karnataka. Hot and humid conditions are expected to persist on March 3.
With relative humidity between 40-50% and maximum air temperatures ranging between 37-38°C, the perceived temperature for the human body is expected to be between 40-50°C, significantly increasing discomfort levels.
IMD also predicts no major changes in maximum and minimum temperatures across South Interior Karnataka for the next five days. In North Interior Karnataka, temperatures will remain stable for the next three days before gradually decreasing.
