Sullia sizzles at 41.4°C, highest in state

Mangaluru: Sullia hobli in Dakshina Kannada district recorded the highest maximum temperature in the State for Monday. It recorded a maximum temperature of 41.4°C between 8.30am on Monday and 8.30am on Tuesday, according to the

Karnataka State Natural Disaster Monitoring Centre

(KSNDMC). This comes days after it topped the charts with 40.1°C from February 28 to March 1.
Hot and humid weather is likely to continue across coastal Karnataka on Wednesday as well, meteorologists warned.
Many parts of Dakshina Kannada and Uttara Kannada districts, along with isolated areas in Udupi and Kodagu, saw temperatures soaring above 38°C on Monday.
KSNDMC's weather monitoring network recorded 10 locations in Dakshina Kannada and Uttara Kannada districts, two in Udupi, and one in Kodagu reporting temperatures above 38°C. Though the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said maximum temperatures remained near normal (-1.5°C to 1.5°C) over the state, the combination of 40-50% relative humidity and high air temperatures (37°C – 38°C) over coastal Karnataka is making it feel much hotter — perceived as high as 40°C–50°C to the human body. No significant change is expected in maximum temperatures over the next two days.

In the past 24 hours till Tuesday morning, Panemangalore recorded 40.5°C, Moodbidri 39°C, Kokkada 40.3°C, Puttur 40.2°C, Bantwal 38°C, Belthangady 38.8°C, Kadaba 40.4°C, Vittal 38.6°C, Uppinangady 40°C, Sampaje 40.7°C, Karkala 38°C, and Hebri 39.5°C. Among places in Uttara Kannada, Sambrani 38.5°C, Umbalamani 38°C, Savantvada 39.3°C, Belikere 38.4°C, Pala 39.3°C, Mavinakurvei 39.2°C, Ghadasaya 41.1°C, Ankola 38.2°C, Murkvad 39°C, Mirjan 38.3°C and Sampakanda (Ammanahalli) 38.3°C.
