Coast sizzles in hot and humid conditions

Mangaluru: Many places of Uttara Kannada district, a few places of Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts, recorded maximum temperature between 39°C to 41.1°C on Wednesday, with Savantvada hobli in Uttara Kannada district recording the highest maximum temperature of 41.1°C in the state.
According to the

KSNDMC weather monitoring

network, nine locations in Uttara Kannada district, and four locations each in Dakshina Kannada and Udupi recorded maximum temperature above 39°C in the state.
On Wednesday, the maximum temperatures were appreciably above normal (3.1°C to 5°) at isolated places over Coastal Karnataka and near normal (-1.5°C to 1.5°C) over the rest of the state. KSNDMC has warned that heat wave conditions are likely to prevail over coastal Karnataka for two days and hot and humid conditions for the subsequent 24 hours.
Due to increase of relative humidity between (40-50%) and maximum air temperature in the range of (37-38 degrees Celsius) over Coastal Karnataka, the human body perceives the maximum temperature in the range between 40-50 degrees C.

However, KSNMDC stated that there will be no large change in maximum and minimum temperatures for the next five days over Coastal Karnataka and South Interior Karnataka.
For coastal stations, heat waves are predicted when maximum temperature departure is 4.5°C or more from normal temperature.
