Adwoa Safo Denies Allegations of Voting Against Mike Oquaye

Former Dome/Kwabenya MP, Adwoa Safo, has broken her silence regarding allegations surrounding her role in the contentious Speaker of Parliament election. In an interview on Asempa FM, monitored by MyNewsGh, she vehemently denied claims that she voted against the New Patriotic Party's (NPP) candidate, Professor Mike Oquaye, and instead supported the National Democratic Congress' (NDC) Alban Bagbin.
"I want to make it clear that I did not vote against Mike Oquaye," Safo asserted, refuting the persistent accusations. She stated that she had informed the then-Majority Leader, Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu, of her intentions before the vote took place. Safo went on to accuse Mensah Bonsu of betraying her trust by implying that she had, in fact, supported Bagbin.
Safo recounted the events of that day, explaining that she was delayed due to heavy traffic and had to be escorted to Parliament by dispatch riders sent by Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu to ensure her timely arrival to support the party's nominee. She questioned the logic of going through such lengths if her intention was to vote for Bagbin. "If my intention was to vote for Bagbin, why would I go through all that stress just to arrive in time?" she asked.
Beyond the specific allegations about the Speaker election, Safo suggested that there were deliberate attempts within the NPP to undermine her. She alluded to the possibility of spiritual forces being at play and voiced her disappointment that she was unfairly singled out for blame, despite multiple NPP MPs reportedly voting for Bagbin. She highlighted the unfairness of the situation, emphasizing that the blame had been disproportionately placed on her shoulders.
