He-Man Reboot Conquers Box Office with Explosive Debut

The domestic box office is currently enjoying another phenomenal weekend, building on the recent record-breaking successes of horror films like Backrooms and Obsession. While the Star Wars movie The Mandalorian and Grogu saw a significant second-weekend drop, two major new releases, Paramount's Scary Movie reboot and Amazon MGM's Masters of the Universe, have entered the fray, alongside the continued strong performance of existing titles.

The Scary Movie reboot, with the franchise architects the Wayans brothers back at the helm, proved to be a triumphant return. It exceeded expectations with an impressive $24 million opening-day haul and is now projected to gross around $55 million for the weekend. This strong performance virtually guarantees a number one finish at the box office.

The two highly successful A24 horror movies continue to perform well. Backrooms is projected to slip to the number three spot with around $26 million for the weekend, having already amassed more than $115 million domestically. Meanwhile, Curry Barker's breakout hit Obsession is eyeing the number four spot with approximately $25 million, poised to pass the $150 million mark domestically by Sunday, against a reported budget of under $1 million.

Amazon MGM's Masters of the Universe landed in the number two spot. The $170 million adaptation of the popular 1980s Mattel property earned $11.7 million on its opening day, including $4.4 million from Thursday previews. It is now eyeing an opening weekend haul of more than $30 million. While this is a solid debut, it falls under the $37 million opening weekend of Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves, a film that ultimately underperformed commercially despite positive reviews. Masters of the Universe, directed by Travis Knight, has also received positive reviews, holding a 66% score on Rotten Tomatoes, with critics calling it a "delightful adventure that finds the humanity in He-Man." The film stars Nicholas Galitzine as Adam/He-Man, Camila Mendes, Idris Elba, Alison Brie, Kristen Wiig, and Jared Leto as Skeletor.

An unexpected new release, Fathom Events' The Amazing Digital Circus: The Last Act, comprising the eighth and ninth episodes of a cult adult animated web series, secured the fifth spot, demonstrating a burgeoning market for such properties, a trend perhaps underscored by the success of films like Backrooms.

Beyond the silver screen, Collider also offers an exclusive dive into the fantastical world of J.R.R. Tolkien with its "Middle-earth Quiz: Which Lord of the Rings Character Are You?" This interactive feature guides participants through ten thoughtfully crafted questions about burden, loyalty, power, home, combat, wisdom, identity, nature, morality, and legacy, promising to reveal their true character aligned with iconic figures from Middle-earth.

The quiz outcomes provide rich character insights: If you are **Frodo**, you carry a heavy burden with quiet, stubborn, and terrifying strength, chosen for greatness. If you are **Samwise**, your loyalty is a force of nature, essential and unwavering. **Aragorn** signifies a born leader, tempered by loss and honor, whose step forward shifts the world. **Gandalf** embodies wisdom and catalytic influence, arriving precisely when meant to, altering possibilities. **Legolas** represents graceful perception and calm under pressure, fighting to protect the world's most fragile beauty. **Gimli** is loud, proud, and fiercely loyal, with friendships forged like iron and courage that makes legends. **Sauron** symbolizes a will for absolute order and dominion, believing the world falls apart without control, a being defined by a past loss. Finally, **Gollum** is a study in contradiction, pitiable yet dangerous, consumed by loss and driven by warring voices, serving as a poignant mirror to our own vulnerabilities. This quiz invites honest self-reflection, as "the One Ring has a way of revealing what we most want to hide."
