Guillermo del Toro's 'Frankenstein' Trailer Unleashes Jacob Elordi's Terrifying Monster

Netflix has recently unveiled a new trailer for Guillermo del Toro’s highly anticipated adaptation of “Frankenstein,” offering audiences a much closer look at Jacob Elordi’s resurrected monster. Previously shrouded in mystery, the new footage reveals Elordi’s ghoulish and ghastly appearance, a significant departure from his usual 'pretty boy' roles in productions like “Euphoria” and “Saltburn,” and showcases the monster’s distinctive green skin. Alongside Elordi, the trailer also features detailed glimpses of Oscar Isaac as the titular Dr. Victor Von Frankenstein and Mia Goth as Elizabeth Lavenza, Victor’s bride-to-be.
The film, which boasts a runtime of 149 minutes and is categorized under Drama, Horror, and Science Fiction, has already received a warm reception on the fall festival circuit. It premiered at the prestigious Venice Film Festival, followed by surprise screenings at the Telluride Film Festival, and another prominent appearance at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF). At TIFF, “Frankenstein” was recognized as the runner-up for the coveted people’s choice award, an accolade often considered a significant indicator for the upcoming Oscar race.
Guillermo del Toro, an Academy Award-winning filmmaker, has harbored a desire to adapt Mary Shelley’s seminal 1818 gothic novel for decades before Netflix finally gave the project the green light. In a discussion featured in Variety’s cover story for the Venice Film Festival, del Toro elucidated his unique vision for the story, stating, “The usual discourse of Frankenstein has to do with science gone awry. But for me, it’s about the human spirit. It’s not a cautionary tale: It’s about forgiveness, understanding and the importance of listening to each other.” He further clarified his artistic intent, remarking, “I’m not doing a horror movie — ever. I’m not trying to do that,” emphasizing the emotional depth over conventional scares.
Beyond the core trio, del Toro has assembled an impressive ensemble cast, characteristic of his meticulous approach. This includes acclaimed talents such as Christoph Waltz, Charles Dance, Felix Kammerer, David Bradley, Lauren Collins, and Lars Mikkelsen. The film’s lavish fantasy sets are also prominently featured in the trailer, ranging from a harbored ship in a frozen ocean to an elegant ballroom party, promising a visually rich experience.
Netflix plans to give “Frankenstein” a limited, awards-qualifying theatrical release on October 17, with its global streaming debut scheduled for November 7. This highly anticipated adaptation is poised to offer a fresh, deeply personal, and emotionally resonant take on the classic tale of creation and humanity.
