Governor Lawal Unleashes Sweeping Reforms in Zamfara
Governor Dauda Lawal's administration is driving reforms across Zamfara State, focusing on human capital, digital innovation, humanitarian support, security, and local governance.
These initiatives aim to tackle critical challenges and promote sustainable development.
Zamfara is set to recruit 3,050 qualified teachers into the basic education system. Prof. Nasir Anka Garba of the Zamfara State Universal Basic Education Board (ZSUBEB) said the move addresses teacher shortages and improves the quality of learning in underserved communities.
To advance digital skills, Governor Lawal approved the establishment of the Zamfara Institute of Information Technology (ZIIT).
Dr. Habib Gajam of the Zamfara Information Technology Development Agency praised it as a milestone for innovation, aiming to train professionals in software, AI, cybersecurity, and data science.
Supporting humanitarian efforts, First Lady Huriyya Dauda Lawal launched the 2026 Ramadan food distribution programme, set to reach 50,000 vulnerable residents.
Packages include rice, beans, millet, sugar, oil, spaghetti, and wrappers, ensuring equitable support across all 147 wards.
On security, Governor Lawal convened an emergency state security council meeting in Gusau following reports of IED placements and bandit attacks. He emphasized vigilance, intelligence sharing, and a coordinated operational response to safeguard communities.
In local governance, 650 verified local government staff have had their salaries reinstated and paid. Engr. Ahmad Garba Yandi confirmed the decision followed a thorough verification to ensure fairness and accountability, boosting morale among civil servants.
