Kenyans have been urged to take full advantage of the newly launched Deposit Assistance Initiative, aimed at making homeownership more accessible to all.

Speaking during the launch held in South B, Nairobi, the acting CEO of the Affordable Housing Board, Sheila Waweru, emphasized the government’s commitment to ensuring that both low- and middle-income earners are not left behind in the journey towards owning decent homes.

She was joined by Nairobi South Ward MCA, Waithera Chege, as they engaged residents and various stakeholders in discussions on the progress and potential of the Mukuru Affordable Housing Project.

The acting CEO of the Affordable Housing Board noted that the project, one of the flagship developments under the government’s affordable housing programme, has already provided decent, safe, and dignified homes for 1,080 people.

Under the new Deposit Assistance arrangement, the required deposit for a home has been reduced from 10% to 5% to make it easier for more Kenyans to qualify for home ownership.

The Affordable Housing Board plans to roll out similar sensitization forums in other Nairobi neighbourhoods and counties in the coming weeks. The goal is to ensure that every Kenyan is informed about and can access the available housing opportunities.

Citizens are encouraged to visit the official Boma Yangu platform or consult with their local housing officers for more information.
