God of Thunder Returns! Chris Hemsworth Back in MCU for 'Avengers: Doomsday' Trailer Drop

Marvel Studios has officially begun rolling out promotional material for its highly anticipated film, Avengers: Doomsday, slated for release on December 18, 2026. The movie brings back the acclaimed directing duo Joe and Anthony Russo, who previously helmed Avengers: Endgame. Initial casting announcements had already generated significant buzz, and recent teasers are further fueling fan excitement by confirming key character returns and introducing new elements to the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Among the most anticipated returns is Chris Hemsworth as Thor. His participation in Avengers: Doomsday was anticipated after his name was the first on the cast list. A newly released teaser provides the first official look at the God of Thunder, revealing a visual style reminiscent of his Infinity War appearance, complete with shorter hair, a departure from his looks in later films like Endgame and Love and Thunder. The teaser also notably features his on-screen and real-life daughter, who first appeared in 2023's Love and Thunder.
Adding to the surprises, Chris Evans is confirmed to return as Captain America, marking him as the second original Avenger to receive a dedicated teaser for Doomsday. This revelation caught many fans off guard, especially since Evans had previously denied reports of his return while promoting his A24 romantic comedy, Materialists. His trailer as Steve Rogers debuted last week, playing in theaters before Avatar: Fire and Ash, whereas Hemsworth’s teaser is now showing alongside it.
Further intrigue surrounds the film's antagonists and other hero appearances. While it was reported that the third trailer would focus on Robert Downey Jr.'s Doctor Doom, confirming him as the new MCU villain, a different trailer has unexpectedly leaked online. This leaked footage seemingly centers on the X-Men, reportedly confirming the return of James Marsden as Cyclops, alongside other veteran Fox X-Men actors. Fans can expect a fourth and final full teaser within the next two weeks, which is likely to provide the much-anticipated first look at Downey's Doctor Doom.
The expansive cast of Avengers: Doomsday also includes Marvel’s First Family, with all four members from The Fantastic Four: First Steps confirmed to appear: Vanessa Kirby as Sue Storm/Invisible Woman, Joseph Quinn as Johnny Storm/Human Torch, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach as Ben Grimm/The Thing. Other notable additions include Simu Liu, a veteran from Shang-Chi, as well as Anthony Mackie and Sebastian Stan, ensuring a star-studded ensemble for this monumental superhero, action, and sci-fi epic.
