Global Rhythms Ignite: Shakira & Burna Boy Drop Official 2026 FIFA World Cup Anthem 'Dai Dai'!

Global pop sensation Shakira and Nigerian Grammy-winning Afrobeat superstar Burna Boy have officially released "Dai Dai," the highly anticipated official song for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The announcement was made by the Colombian singer on her social media page on Friday, with FIFA confirming its availability on all major streaming platforms including Spotify, Apple Music, YouTube Music, and Amazon Music. Shakira's post, "Dai Dai is here. The @FIFAWorldCup 2026 starts now!", signaled the track's immediate global launch.

Released via Sony Music Latin, "Dai Dai" is more than just a World Cup anthem; it serves as the Official FIFA World Cup 2026™ Song in support of the FIFA Global Citizen Education Fund. This ambitious initiative aims to raise $100 million by the end of the tournament to provide children worldwide with access to quality education and football opportunities. FIFA has stated that royalties generated from the song will contribute to this fund, with Shakira donating her royalties and Sony Music pledging to match the first $250,000 raised with an additional donation.

"Dai Dai" masterfully blends Afrobeats rhythms with Latin pop influences, capturing the energy, passion, and global spirit that will define the upcoming tournament. Lyrically, the song features motivational themes centered on resilience, ambition, and unity. The artists pay tribute to numerous football legends and stars, including Pelé, Diego Maradona, Paolo Maldini, Romário, Cristiano Ronaldo, Andrés Iniesta, David Beckham, Kaká, Lionel Messi, Kylian Mbappé, and Mohamed Salah. It also references several football-loving nations such as Brazil, Uruguay, Argentina, Colombia, the United States, England, Germany, France, South Africa, Spain, Mexico, Japan, South Korea, and the Netherlands.

The release marks a significant return for Shakira to the FIFA World Cup stage, following her previous global hits "Waka Waka (This Time for Africa)" for the 2010 tournament in South Africa and "La La La" for the 2014 Brazil edition. For Burna Boy, this collaboration is a milestone, making him the second Nigerian artist to feature on a FIFA World Cup song. The first was Davido, who made history with "Hayya Hayya (Better Together)" for the 2022 tournament in Qatar, alongside Trinidad Cardona and Qatari Aisha.

The 2026 FIFA World Cup tournament is scheduled to run from June 11 to July 19, 2026, featuring 48 teams across Canada, Mexico, and the USA. The opening match will take place on June 11 at the Estadio Azteca in Mexico City, with Mexico facing South Africa. Further enhancing Nigeria's presence at the global event, FIFA also announced that Nigerian Afrobeats sensation Rema will headline the opening ceremony on June 12 in Los Angeles. Adding to the star power, Shakira is also expected to co-headline the tournament's final halftime show on July 19, a historic first for the FIFA World Cup, aiming to unite global stars at the intersection of sport, culture, and purpose while supporting the education fund.

"Dai Dai" joins other singles already released from the official FIFA World Cup 2026 album, which include "Lighter," "Por Ella," "Echo," and "Illuminate," with additional tracks anticipated before the tournament kicks off.
