Glenda Faye Smith Maxwell, 87

Glenda Maxwell was born to Joyce Ann Enoch and Raymond Lee Smith in Calloway County, Kentucky, on 14th of October, 1937. She passed away at the home of her son on the 13th of June, 2025, surrounded by loving family. She was 87 years old at the time of her passing. 

Glenda attended Symsonia High School, in Graves County, Kentucky, and graduated in 1957. She enjoyed her friends at school, and participated in many church activities as well. 

She met the man who would become her husband, Jay Maxwell, at Ridgecrest Baptist Conference Center, in North Carolina, where they were both summer staffers, in the summer of 1956. They were married in August of 1957 in Graves County, Kentucky. 

Glenda attended college in Kansas, and for a brief period in their early years, taught school in a 2-room country school in Bonner Springs, Kansas. 

She was a homemaker, as well as an owner-operator, with her husband, of a limited-edition print and framing business. 

Jay was a Navy pilot, and their early years were spent at various Naval bases, where all 3 of the children were born. As is common in military families, when Jay was deployed, Glenda stayed home with the children and managed the household in his absence. 

Jay and Glenda traveled extensively, nationally and internationally, and together they visited Belfast, Dublin, and Shannon Ireland, St. Petersburg Russia, Helsinki Finland, Heidelberg and Hamburg Germany, East Germany, Paris France, Rome Italy, London 

England, Newfoundland, in addition to most major US cities, as well as Hawaii and Alaska. 

Jay and Glenda also became Airstream RVers, and traveled thousands of miles across the country, including Alaska and the Yukon, every Canadian province, and every state in Mexico. 

She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She and her husband Jay and their 3 children were charter members of Peachtree City First Baptist Church. She was an active teacher in her Sunday School class for many years, and

enjoyed the friendships she made in her later years at Arbor Terrace Assisted Living Community. 

Glenda was preceded in death by her husband Jay Maxwell, in 2023. 

Glenda is survived by her children Eric (Janet) Maxwell of Peachtree City, Georgia, Gayle (Eliott) Jordan of Roseburg, Oregon, and Kevin Maxwell of Fayetteville, Georgia. 

Additionally, she is survived by her 4 grandchildren: Ben (Kirsten) Jordan of Wenatchee, Washington, Sam (Maddy) Jordan of Wenatchee, Washington, Glenda (Nick) Jordan of Las Vegas, Nevada, and Amy (Alex) Jordan of Eugene, Oregon. She is also survived by her great-grandson Aden Jordan of Roseburg, Oregon, and her great-granddaughter Bennett Jordan Burgdorfer of Eugene, Oregon. 

She is survived by her sisters Annette Smith, and Clista Miles, and brother Rob (Marie) Smith. 

She is also survived by son-in-law Jesse (Anna Lee) Jordan of Bell Buckle, Tennessee, and many loving nieces and nephews and their families. 

There will be a service at Mowell’s Funeral Home, 200 Robinson Road, Peachtree City, Georgia, on Monday, June 16 at 6pm. Visitation will begin at 5pm. 

Burial will take place in a private ceremony at a later date.
