Adaklu Waya (V/R), March 6 GNA – Miss Lawrencia Amegboe, a 16-year-old form three student of The Kings Perseverance Academy Junior High School at Adaklu Waya in the Adaklu District Thursday urged Ghanaians to forge a united front to fight and uproot corruption from the society.

“This canker which has permeated every fabric of society has blocked the development of the nation for so long and needs a concerted effort from all of us to weed it out,” she said.

Miss Amegboe said this during a parade at Adaklu Waya in the Adaklu District to mark the 68th independence day anniversary celebration.

It was on the theme: “Reflect, Review and Reset”.

Miss Amegboe stated that it was time Ghanaians kept their leaders on their toes by demanding accountability and transparency from them at all levels.

“We can only enjoy the fruits of our democracy if we all decide to do what is right,” she noted.

Mr. Sylvanus Plaha, Adaklu District Coordinating Director, who took the salute, in an address said peace and unity were very important components for growth and development of the nation.

He advised Ghanaians to eschew negative tendencies like vigilantism and ethnocentric and hate speeches that would derail the peace, unity and retrogress the development of the country.

“We will have divergent views on issues in respect of our ethnic and political affiliations but we must reflect on the negativities that will not help to bring the needed development of our dear country,” he said.

Mr. Plaha urged all citizens to work hard to protect the peace and unity of the country but was quick to add that “what benefit is this peace we are enjoying if it does not match up to our desired development.”

The District Coordinating Director urged the clergy to use the pulpit to preach the essence of peace and unity to help propel the pace of development of the country.

He called on the people to refrain from indiscriminate dumping of refuse, poor sanitation practices, and improper handling of government properties, adding “this practices if not eschewed, government will be compelled to channel resources which will be used to facilitate development of the country into fighting diseases.”

Mr. Plaha was full of praise for Mr. Governs Kwame Agbodza, Minister for Roads and Highways, who is also the Member of Parliament for Adaklu for single-handedly sponsoring the parade.

Adaklu Waya Evangelical Church Basic School and The Kings Perseverance Academy took part in the match past.

Present were heads of decentralized departments and security services in the district.
