Ghanasco's 65th Anniversary Celebrated

First Lady Lordina Dramani Mahama officially launched the 65th anniversary of Ghana Senior High School (GHANASCO) in Tamale, celebrating its legacy and role in shaping future generations. As an alumna, Mrs. Mahama highlighted President John Dramani Mahama’s dedication to education.
Mrs. Mahama praised GHANASCO as a community and training ground for leaders, professionals, artisans, and patriots. She acknowledged prominent alumni, including Alhaji Alhassan Andani, Dr Mohammed Ibrahim Awal, John Jinapor, Alhassan Suhuyini, Abedi Pele, Kwame Ayew, and Professor Bashiru Imoro Saeed.
The First Lady attributed President John Mahama's leadership to his GHANASCO education. She reiterated the government's commitment to education, focusing on infrastructure, teacher training, TVET, and initiatives to enhance teaching and learning.
Professor Saeed echoed the mission of cultivating future leaders, as exemplified by the Mahamas. Headmaster Douglas Haruna Yakubu urged students to emulate alumni successes and avoid negative behaviors. He requested government assistance for facilities like a library, assembly hall, dormitory, and improved sanitation.
Minister of Education Haruna Iddrisu assured the school of the government's support, announcing tenders for an assembly hall and dormitory soon. He also pledged to address classroom furniture shortages and empower authorities to enforce student discipline. Plans include reviewing the basic school curriculum to reinforce native languages.
The 65th anniversary will be commemorated in October. The launch event was attended by dignitaries, including Ali Adolf John, John Jinapor, Alhasan Suhuyini, Abu Takoro, and Alhassan Alidu Jnr.
