University of Ghana Signs Deal for 10,130-Bed Hostel

The University of Ghana has struck a landmark deal with Prime Premier Haven Limited to construct a 10,130-bed student hostel, addressing the university’s long-standing accommodation shortages.

The project will occupy 10 acres of UG land under a 30-year lease, with the university set to earn up to six per cent of annual revenue. After the lease ends, full ownership reverts to the university. As part of the agreement, the contractor will also complete a previously abandoned College of Humanities project.

The facility is expected to be completed within 36 months, with the initial phase delivered in 12 months. Vice-Chancellor Professor Nana Aba Appiah Amfo signed the agreement alongside Prime Premier Haven CEO Razak Awudulai, witnessed by officials from the Ghana Infrastructure Investment Fund and the Ministry of Finance.

Pro Vice-Chancellor Professor Gordon Awandare praised the deal, highlighting years of negotiation and the GIIF’s support. He expressed confidence the university could fully manage the property within 16 years, enabling future development opportunities.

Contractor APC Contractors will oversee construction, with assurances of high-quality delivery. GIIF CEO Solomon Asamoah emphasized the importance of private-sector partnerships in boosting student housing and pledged support to ensure the project’s long-term sustainability.
