Ghana: Odeneho Nana Oppong Alleges Rev Owusu-Bempah Switched His Spirit with Bawumia

Odeneho Nana Oppong, the former Director of Transport at the Presidency during the Akufo-Addo administration, has made a startling claim: the New Patriotic Party's (NPP) electoral defeat in 2024 was, in part, due to their neglect of Reverend Isaac Owusu-Bempah, the founder and leader of Glorious Word Power Ministry International.

Speaking on Okay FM on March 26, 2025, Oppong asserted that Owusu-Bempah possesses significant spiritual influence that the NPP failed to utilize. He recounted a specific instance during the election season where he was allegedly used as a spiritual conduit for Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, aimed at bolstering his chances of winning the 2024 election. "Rev Owusu-Bempah said my star is high up. So, he used me as a point of contact for Dr Mahamudu Bawumia to boost his chances of winning the 2024 Election during the electioneering season," Oppong stated. He described a spiritual exercise in the mountains involving intense fasting and prayers, during which Owusu-Bempah purportedly switched his spirit with Bawumia's. "For about 30 minutes, I couldn’t speak because my spirit was inside Bawumia. We even called him," Oppong claimed.

Oppong expressed dismay at the NPP's subsequent treatment of Owusu-Bempah, alleging that the party abandoned him when he needed their support. He highlighted the arrest of Owusu-Bempah by former Inspector General of Police (IGP) Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, stating that calls to the Jubilee House went unanswered. "When he was arrested, nobody picked his call from the Jubilee House. Even when he was hospitalised and was handcuffed on his sick bed, no NPP executive came to help him," he lamented, accusing the NPP of ingratitude.

Furthermore, Oppong cautioned the NPP against silencing dissenting voices within the party, referencing Sarah Adwoa Safo as an example. He warned that continuing to threaten disgruntled members with disciplinary measures could lead to further electoral setbacks in 2028. "At this point, they should stop threatening disgruntled members like Adwoa Safo with disciplinary measures. It is about time they listened to grievances of members, patched up, and rebuild the party," he advised.

The claims made by Odeneho Nana Oppong shed light on the alleged role of spiritual figures in Ghanaian politics and raise questions about the NPP's internal dynamics following their defeat in the 2024 election.
