Peter Okoye (P-Square) Reportedly Disowns Brothers Amidst Fraud Allegations

Popular Nigerian singer Peter Okoye, also known as Mr P of the acclaimed P-Square duo, has publicly announced his decision to sever ties with his brothers, twin Paul Okoye and elder brother Jude Okoye, who formerly managed the group. The singer made this declaration amidst ongoing allegations of fraud and betrayal, stating unequivocally that "blood isn't thicker than betrayal" and emphasizing that years of loyalty had nearly cost him his sanity and career.
Mr P's emotional outburst was partly triggered by a fan's comment on X (formerly Twitter), urging him to reconcile with his family. Peter's response was blunt: “We are no longer family at this point! Family is blood related, but the real family is loyalty. Don’t let family be the reason you're drowning in silence. I did for over 20 years and it almost cost me everything.” He further added, “Love doesn’t manipulate, loyalty doesn’t betray, and family does not steal from you… If it costs my mental health, then it’s too expensive! #iDisOwnThem.”
These statements follow recent legal developments where Jude Okoye’s lawyer accused Mr P of providing false information in his statement to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). The accusations concerned Peter's access to the finances of Northside Music Ltd and his academic credentials. Peter vehemently denied these claims, countering that it was an attempt by "their publicist" to portray him as a liar. “I’m not MayD or Cynthia Morgan. I am PETER OKOYE. The one and only THE ROCK of the Okoyes. The truth shall prevail,” he asserted.
The singer also revealed that the tragic circumstances surrounding the death of fellow musician Mohbad significantly influenced his decision to speak out. He stated, “After watching everything about Mohbad’s death and how it all played out, I decided never to play the bigger person again. Never again. Love me or hate me, I will keep speaking my truth.” This resolve to abandon silence in the face of abuse and betrayal marked a turning point for him.
In addition to the broader family estrangement, Peter Okoye has also directly addressed his twin brother, Paul 'Rudeboy' Okoye. In a harsh open letter, Peter accused Paul of disrespect, undermining his contributions to their P-Square legacy, and attempting to alienate fans. This letter underscores the persistent tensions between the brothers, which have been apparent since their initial group split in 2017. The public revelations have ignited considerable debate online, with fans and observers expressing a range of reactions from shock to support.
Separately, Mr P also made headlines regarding his involvement in football transfers, recounting his efforts alongside former Nigerian footballer Mikel Obi to facilitate Victor Osimhen's potential move to Chelsea from Napoli during the 2024 summer transfer window. Although Osimhen eventually joined Galatasaray on loan, Peter affirmed his continued commitment to bringing the striker to Chelsea in the 2025 summer window.
