Ghana Jollof Scandal: Nurse's Detention Sparks Outcry, Police Allege False News Circulation

The Ghana Police Service has commenced investigations into alleged online activities, specifically focusing on the publication and circulation of content believed to incite fear, alarm, and violence. These inquiries center on TikToker Barbara Asantewaa Kodua, widely known as 'Ghana Jollof', who is reportedly based in the United Kingdom. During a press briefing on Friday, September 18, 2026, Director-General of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID), COP Lydia Yaako Donkor, revealed that police intelligence had identified Kodua as the operator of the 'Ghana Jollof' TikTok account. According to COP Donkor, Kodua has consistently utilized this platform to produce and publish videos containing what investigators deem inciteful comments and false information, citing as one example an alleged claim by Kodua regarding a near coup d’état at the Jubilee House.

Investigations by the Ghana Police Service have so far established that Barbara Asantewaa Kodua allegedly paid Salomey Awitti Baffoe and other individuals to redistribute her false information across various social media platforms. Ms. Baffoe was identified as an alleged accomplice in this dissemination, reportedly recruiting others to circulate the material. The Police further allege that a financial arrangement existed between Kodua and Baffoe, whereby Kodua, from the United Kingdom, purportedly transferred funds to Baffoe in Ghana to support these activities. Baffoe, in turn, allegedly distributed portions of these funds to other individuals involved in the redistribution of Kodua’s videos.
