Game Changer: CG Semi Unleashes India's Inaugural Semiconductor

India has marked a significant stride towards technological self-reliance with the announcement of the first ‘Made in India’ semiconductor chip, slated for launch by CG Semi. Ashwini Vaishnaw, the Union Minister of Electronics and Information Technology, confirmed on Thursday, August 28, 2025, that this pioneering achievement is spearheaded by CG Semi, a joint venture predominantly owned by the Indian company CG Power and Industrial Solutions.

The manufacturing hub for this indigenous semiconductor chip will be CG Semi's outsourced semiconductor assembly and testing (OSAT) pilot facility, located in Sanand, Gujarat. Speaking at the facility’s inauguration, Minister Vaishnaw revealed that this pilot line, also known as the G1 facility, is projected to produce 0.5 million, or 5 lakh, ‘Made-in-India’ chips daily. He emphasized that production is expected to commence soon, highlighting the pilot line's critical role in qualifying chips for customer approval and preparing them for subsequent commercial production.
