A section of Murang’a politicians has castigated President William Ruto’s government over the continued involvement of various government entities in pursuing political opponents.

They claim the president has weaponized security agents, the Kenya Revenue Authority, the Ethics and Anticorruption Commission, and IPOA against opponents.

Led by Jamleck Kamau and George Kibuku, they called on the government to live up to its calling to protect the lives of the citizens.

Speaking in Githunguri village, Kangema, at the home of Boniface Kariuki, who was shot as he hawked masks in Nairobi, the politicians demanded justice for the victims of police brutality.

They called on IPOA to delink itself from the police it plays oversight on, as it has been holding joint press briefings.

“The government security agents were now pursuing politicians, leaving criminal gangs free, terrorizing Kenyans,” they said.

Kibuku said the police are blamed for excessive use of power and brutality against the citizens, which must stop.

“The police have stopped protecting the citizens turned to the known tormentors,” said Kibuku as he remembers Kariuki working at Michuki National Polytechnic as a casual labourer before relocating to Nairobi.

Kanyenya ini MCA Grace City Nduta said the time is ripe for leaders' unity, and a fight for the interest of the residents.

“Murang’a should speak in one voice to ensure justice is done to Kariuki, who was injured when he was in his business,” said Nduta, who has declared to run for the Murang’a woman representative position in 2027.
