His father, Jonah Kariuki, addressed the press at Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH), accompanied by his lawyer.

Jonah looked deeply concerned, suggesting that all was not well with his son, who remained hospitalized after the shooting incident.

“He is not responding to the treatment. He is yet to show any signs of improvement or change. The situation is still the same. We have to continue monitoring him and see how it goes,” he said heartbreakingly.

Boniface had already undergone two surgeries after a bullet got lodged in his head, leaving him in critical condition.

He was selling masks to protesters during the demonstration when police allegedly shot him.

The family’s lawyer noted that the hospital bill continued to rise the longer Boniface stayed admitted.

“We were told the bill had already accumulated to over KSh 1 million, and it continues to grow. Only the hospital administration can tell us the exact figure. Of course, the longer Boniface stays admitted, the higher the bill goes,” the lawyer explained.

Jonah helplessly said that the family was still pursuing justice for his son, who remains in critical condition in the ICU.

He added that no one had contacted them regarding the ongoing investigation.

“No one has contacted us. No one has helped us so far,” he said faintly.

Jonah's lawyer confirmed that although they had not yet filed a formal complaint with the police, they had reached out to some officials.

However, no action had been taken, and the government had not offered any assistance.

“We are appealing for any assistance that can be extended to us. We are planning to approach the security agencies on Monday to see whether we can receive any support, which so far has not been forthcoming,” the lawyer added.

In another heartbreaking story, Jonah revealed that he lost over KSh 200,000 to scammers posing as officials from the Social Health Authority (SHA).

The scammers contacted him, claiming they could help with the growing hospital bills at KNH.

As part of their fraudulent scheme, they requested a small registration fee and convinced him to share his personal details, including his M-Pesa PIN.

Unfortunately, Jonah complied. Once they accessed his M-Pesa account, they withdrew KSh 200,000.

He noted that the scammers initially asked for KSh 20,500, but in his confusion, he ended up sending KSh 200,500.
