Boniface Kariuki, who was shot during Albert Omondi Ojwang's protests, is currently recuperating after undergoing the procedure.

His parents, Jonah Kariuki and Susan Njeri, arrived at Kenyatta National Hospital to check on their son.

Boniface's tragic incident sent shockwaves of rage and frustration across the nation after he was reportedly shot at point-blank range.

In a video where the family addressed the press and shared updates on their son's condition, Njeri was overwhelmed with emotion.

“Boniface Kariuki’s parents at Kenyatta National Hospital ICU today, where he is admitted following surgery after being shot in the head by police at point-blank range in Nairobi CBD.
I’ve seen this and my heart sank. The police killer squads and the hiring of goons to beat up youth are sanctioned from the very top. It is by design,” David Maina Ndung'u shared.

Njeri was inconsolable, weeping painfully outside KNH, her heartbreaking reaction captured on video.

She spoke in Kikuyu, expressing her deep grief and unimaginable pain as her son lay in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).

“Hundreds of families—mothers and fathers—are crying due to the state-sponsored terror against the youth we've witnessed over the past two years. And this rogue, murderous regime is not done. It's like they suspended the Constitution to reign terror on citizens. These tears will haunt all involved to their graves,” he added.

Njeri struggled to wipe away her tears after receiving updates concerning her 22-year-old son.

The video went viral and broke many hearts as Kenyans flocked to the comment section to share their reactions.

Gladys Murebeh:

"My instincts tell me the hospital is under strict orders from higher authorities, and most probably the young man has succumbed... I pray I’m wrong, for the sake of these parents."

Stella Lov:

"Everything is possible with God. We declare wholeness from his head to the soles of his feet, in Jesus’ name."

Amanda Mandy Liy:

"The pain is so deep. Fathers echo it loudly in words, but mothers are hurting silently. Can mothers gather and pray in front of Parliament for each fallen child? 😭😭
Women’s prayers are magical and easily heard! Remember—they were the first to visit the tomb."

Ndiege Brian:

"Fellow parents, our children are our greatest treasure and the hope of tomorrow. We must not allow or encourage them to participate in demonstrations or political activities that could endanger their lives.
Politics will come and go, but once a child's life is lost, it can never be regained. Let’s guide them to express themselves safely and constructively, and protect them from being used as tools in political agendas."

Wambui Mutembei:

"We all knew these were just games by the government. They were managing high emotions in the country after the shooting."

Melle Mel Ivasha:

"With brain capacity that low, he may not survive off machines. The hospital should now be transparent with the family."

In another update, Jonah shared his growing concern for his son, noting there had been no improvement in Boniface’s condition.

He said his son looked the same as the last time he saw him in the ICU, breaking hearts with the painful news.

Jonah also made an appeal for justice as he and his family continued to wait for positive updates regarding their son’s medical state.
