Man Seeks Justice Following Police Assault

Gabriel Chacha, a 36-year-old fisherman from Ringiti Island in Homa Bay County, was hospitalized at Home Bay Teaching and Referral Hospital after allegedly being severely assaulted by police officers. The incident stemmed from a disagreement with his female neighbor, leading to his arrest and detention at Ringiti Police Post.
According to Chacha, he was subjected to brutal treatment while in police custody. He recounted being caned severely, and one officer reportedly jumped and stepped on his stomach, causing him intense pain and ultimately rendering him unconscious. Following the assault, Chacha was rushed to the hospital for urgent medical attention.
Chacha claimed that he had long-standing personal differences with his neighbor and accused her of bribing the police officers to inflict severe punishment upon him. He stated that his pleas to the officers to allow the case to be resolved by local beach officials were ignored. Chacha has since appealed to government authorities for justice, emphasizing that he did not deserve the injuries he sustained.
Vincent Oduor, the Chief Executive Officer of Homa Bay Teaching and Referral Hospital, confirmed that Gabriel Chacha's health had been stabilized. Dr. Oduor noted that the patient arrived with significant inflammation on his body, indicative of serious injuries, but his wounds are now showing signs of healing.
In response to the allegations, County Police Commander Lawrence Koilem announced that an investigation into the matter has been launched. Koilem assured that a team of officers has been assigned to probe the incident and that anyone found culpable will face appropriate legal action, with the truth expected to emerge soon.
