Kelly Day, the international boss for Prime Video and Amazon MGM Studios, recently urged the television industry to embrace change, particularly the integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI). Speaking at the Royal Television Society convention in London, Day detailed how AI is being leveraged to accelerate processes and reduce costs across the entire production pipeline, from initial pitching to pre-production stages.

Day emphasized that for a studio of their scale, AI serves as a powerful tool to decrease production expenses while simultaneously upholding high quality standards. This, she explained, ultimately leads to more stories being produced, encourages greater creative risks, and ensures a broader range of diverse voices are heard. She firmly stated that AI does not pose a threat to creativity but rather amplifies it. Day clarified that the aim is not for AI to author the next critically acclaimed series like 'Fleabag,' but rather to free up creators from administrative burdens, allowing them to dedicate more time and focus to their core creative vision.

Highlighting practical applications, Day mentioned how first-time filmmakers are utilizing AI to generate compelling concept art and short films that effectively bring their pitches to life. Internally, Prime Video employs AI to significantly enhance the viewing experience for its audiences through personalized recommendations, simplified synopses, spoiler-free summaries, audio descriptions, and subtitles. A specific example cited was the YA series 'Maxton Hall,' Prime Video's most-watched international original, which now uses lip-sync technology to synchronize actors' lip movements with human-dubbed audio in various languages, improving the authenticity of localized content.

Crucially, Day stressed the importance of establishing
